Getting started, we did a quick survey among our colleagues and coworkers about searching for events. Our goal was to get to know everyday habits, tools and expectations. Here are some of the most interesting observations:
1. Our participants more often engage in recommended or shared events by friends.
2. Some of them do the last-minute search - already out and looking for a plan B (obviously, on the phone)
3. They can't recommend any particular event app - they mostly find event information on social media platforms.
We decided to go on with a mobile event browser based on the results. We found that could define our next steps for creating a whole digital experience.
Moving forward, we've looked into the existing site of Kultura Poznań, and started defining the problem statement. After analysis of the current website, we found the following areas for improvement:
1. Confusing search: There is no explicit search field at the side, you have to choose some category first, and then you see the category list.
2. Inconsistent categories: The database is connected with another city's public site. They have totally different categories, which can be confusing.
Considering all the above, our main objective was to simplify the search experience while reusing the existing database. To have a broader point of view, we looked into competitor features and took them into one place. This procedure helped to define our needs.
